BREAKING: Delta police refund N810,000 extortion money to CDHR
Police officers in Abraka, Ethiope-East Local Government Area of Delta State, have reimbursed a victim the sum of eight hundred and ten thousand naira (N810,000.00).
On Sunday, the Committee for the Defense of Human Rights, CDHR, informed the news men.
Comrade Amrevuawho Peter Edariese, Chairman of the CDHR, stated that the money was refunded in three installments between June 3 and June 7: four hundred thousand naira, twice, and ten thousand naira.
He explained that the ten thousand naira was for POS costs incurred when the money was transferred from the victim’s account.
The septuagenarian presented documentation of the money transfer.
He said that the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Fabian, and his troops in Abraka, Ethiope-East Local Government Area, are engaging in “heavy extortion” against Nigerian citizens.
According to Edariese, the Police in Abraka detained a vehicle belonging to one Christopher Umukoro on Wednesday, May 31, stating that he altered a “hand note” supplied to him without proof.
He claimed that CDHR got involved and sought a refund of the money since the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Fabian, couldn’t explain the change.
According to Edariese, the Police swiftly reimbursed the eight hundred and ten thousand naira obtained from the victim via a POS system owned by a policewoman.
When asked for comment, CSP Fabian stated in a text message to Daily Post, “Good morning, I’m sorry I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
