BREAKING: Ex CBN Governor Emefiele regains freedom from DSS custody

The Department of State Services (DSS) released Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the immediate past governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), last night, Thursday, October 26, 2023.
This occurred the day after Abdulrasheed Bawa, the former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), who had been jailed for 134 days without being given a chance to face charges, was also freed by the DSS.
While Bawa was permitted to return home, Emefiele, who had been under DSS custody since June 9, was picked up right away by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), an anti-corruption organization, according to a SaharaReporters story.
“Emefiele regained his freedom last night but he was immediately picked up by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,” the portal quoted a top security source as saying.
“It was learnt that the Presidency directed the EFCC to take over the case,” the report adds.
