A new round of protests has broken out in Suleja, Niger State’s commercial nerve center, which is only a few kilometres from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
According to images received by SaharaReporters, outraged Nigerians stormed the streets on Wednesday, demanding that President Bola Tinubu’s government cease their poverty and terrible inflation.
“A demonstration is currently taking place in the Suleja local government area of Niger State. They are urging Tinubu to put a stop to the hardships that the country’s people face on a daily basis,” a witness stated.
SaharaReporters said on Monday that hundreds of men, women, and youths in Minna, the capital of Niger State, protested the country’s soaring inflation.
They also expressed concern over the country’s rising gas and fuel prices.
Videos showed demonstrators blocking key roadways while lamenting the government’s failure to address the issue of rising food prices.
The protestors were heard chanting protest songs as security agents, including policemen, looked on.
However, Yakubu Garba, Deputy Governor of Niger State, stated that the government was conscious of the agony and difficulty experienced by families in the country.
Yakubu had told the demonstrators that the administration was striving to reduce the cost of living and the economic consequences of eliminating the petrol subsidy.
