Breaking: One killed as kidnapped Ekiti pupils, staff regain freedom
Abductors released kids and staff from Apostolic Faith Group School in Emure after seven days of captivity.
Five pupils and three school workers were released, while the dare-devil kidnappers killed the driver, Taye Rasaki.
On Monday, gunmen ambushed a bus carrying pupils and staff back to their homes in Eporo and abducted nine of the passengers, leaving the bus on the road.
The kidnappers were claimed to have contacted the relatives of the abducted students and wanted a N100 million ransom for each of the nine people in their hideout.
The abductors, on Thursday, decreased the ransom to N15 million for all abductees, threatening to kill the captives if the money was not paid on time.
However, on Sunday morning, they had a reprieve when the bandits released them.
Hon. Adebayo Oluwatosin, Chairman of Emure Council Area of Ekiti State, verified the news and stated that the victims are in the palace of Elemure in Emure, Ekiti.
He stated that the driver was dead, but the other eight were released.
Confirming the development, Ekiti Police Command Public Relation Officer, Sunday Abutu said:
“All victims were rescued today at about 1:30am but unfortunately, we lost the driver who was unexpectedly killed by the abductors.”
