BREAKING: Senate okays Olayemi Cardoso nomination as CBN Governor, others
The Senate confirmed Mr. Olayemi Cardoso as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, on Tuesday.
Emem Usoro, Muhammad Abdullahi-Dattijo, Philip Ikeazor, and Bala Bello were also confirmed as Olayemi’s deputies.
Their screening began after hours of closed-door meetings presided over by Senate President Godswill Obot Akpabo, who had returned from a two-month yearly recess.
According to Platinum Times, the exchange rate between the Naira and other currencies, particularly the US dollar, dominated the MPs’ questions.
The Lawmakers bemoaned the country’s economic troubles, particularly the Naira’s fast decline.
Senators Jimoh Ibrahim, Adams Oshiomhole, and Elisha Abbo voiced their displeasure and encouraged the incoming CBN staff to “look outside the box to see a way of strengthening the Naira.”
