BREAKING: Strike begins by midnight – Labour Unions

The Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria have urged its members to go on strike beginning at midnight on Tuesday, November 14, in response to the assault on NLC President Joe Ajaero.
According to organized Labour, all affiliate unions of the two labor centers have been directed to carry out the resolutions of the joint National Executive Council of the TUC and NLC.
TUC President Festus Osifo told reporters on Monday that the strike would continue until “governments at all levels wake up to their responsibility.”
They had resolved on November 7 to go on strike nationwide by Tuesday, November 14, if their demands were not met.

Labour leaders smashed their vehicles, injured them, and took handsets, money, ATM cards, and other valuables from Labour leaders and others who had assembled at the NLC State Secretariat to commence a planned demonstration on November 1 over pending Labour concerns.
The NLC President, senior national officials of the NLC, and their TUC counterparts were at the NLC state Secretariat in Owerri to protest a backlog of unpaid wages and allowances, pensions, gratuities, and non-compliance with the National Minimum Wage Act, among other things.
The assault, brutalization, and battering of Ajaero and others has sparked indignation and condemnation throughout the country and beyond.
