BREAKING: Tribunal upholds Dauada Lawal victory as Governor of Zamfara

The Zamfara State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has confirmed Dauda Lawal of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the Governor of the State.

The tribunal dismissed the appeal filed by Bello Matawalle, the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, which challenged Lawal’s victory as unconstitutional.

As a result, it granted the petitioner, Matawalle, a N500,000 cost.

The panel’s three members, Justice Cordelia Ogadi, Justice Bello Hassan, and Justice Aliyu Gegele, were united in their decision.

Justice Cordelia Ogadi, the chairman of the three-person panel, read the tribunal’s four-hour-long decision.

The petitioner failed to show his claim of illegal collation of election results and the poll not being held in several wards in the state, according to the tribunal.

The tribunal decided that Matawalle could not show his allegations of non-compliance by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with the Electoral Act and a corrupt manner of conducting the election.
