BRICS Summit: Kashim Shettima departs Nigeria for South Africa
Vice President Kashim Shettima will travel from Abuja to Johannesburg, South Africa, today to attend the 15th BRICS Summit on behalf of President Bola Tinubu.
Shettima will attend the Summit, which will take place from August 22 to August 24 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, together with other corporate and political leaders from around the world.
Mr. Olusola Abiola, Director of Information, Office of the Vice President, revealed this in a statement on Monday.
President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, President Xi Jinping of China, President Luiz Lula da Silva of Brazil, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India are among the notable leaders anticipated to attend the event.
The head of the African Union Commission, the secretary-general of the United Nations, and the president of the New Development Bank are among the dignitaries who have been invited to the summit.
The summit is anticipated to discuss topics like global governance reform, sustainable development, innovation, and the facilitation of trade and investment.
While concentrating on international geopolitics, commerce, and infrastructure development, it will also continue to reach out to leaders in Africa and the global South.
Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa make up the BRICS group of five significant emerging and developing economies.
Meanwhile, some key government officials are traveling with Shettima.
