A bus that crashed into stores in the Ikotun neighborhood of Lagos on Thursday killed a mother and her two-year-old daughter by crushing them to death.
The bus reportedly struck some businesses on the side of the road near to Toluwalase Hall on Governor’s Road in Ikotun, injuring another shopkeeper, according to reports.
The bus driver allegedly escaped after being almost lynched by witnesses who gathered at the scene of the crash, according to a witness only known as Tayo.
“Since it is a Hummer Bus, the brakes have probably failed. About five businesses were cleared after it crashed into the stores. When taken to the hospital, a mother and her daughter were found to be dead after being crushed, according to Tayo.
According to sources, the mother died while attempting to save her child.
“She hurried to go and save her daughter, but sadly, the bus ran over them both. When people surrounded him, the driver fled, a source claimed.
According to reports, the bus got caught around a gutter next to the road and crossed it.
Adagba Johnson, the divisional police officer in Ikotun, confirmed the occurrence.
