CBN reschedules September 2023 Monetary Policy meeting
The Monetary Policy Committee’s 293rd meeting, set for Monday and Tuesday, September 25 and 26, 2023, has been postponed by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
According to a press release issued on Thursday by the bank’s Director of Corporate Communications, Dr Isa AbdulMumin.
The statement read,
“The Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria has deferred its 293rd meeting scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, September 25 and 26, 2023, respectively.
“A new date will be communicated in due course. We regret any inconvenience this change may cause our stakeholders and the general public.”
Although the apex bank did not cite a cause for the delay, it is most likely related to the delay in approving the bank’s newly nominated governor and deputy governors.
President Bola Tinubu had already picked Yemi Cardoso to lead the CBN.
Tinubu also authorized the nomination of four new deputy governors of the apex bank for a five-year term in the first instance, subject to Senate confirmation.
Emem Usoro, Muhammad Abdullahi-Dattijo, Philip Ikeazor, and Bala Bello are the nominees.
The selection of the CBN governor, however, is subject to confirmation by the Senate, which is now on an annual recess.
Yemi Adaramodu, the Senate spokesperson and chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, recently told Platinum Times that the Senate would screen the governor and other CBN executives as soon as it received an Executive Communication to that effect upon its return from its annual recess.
