Commercial activities begins as Customs finally reopens border with Niger Republic
Sokoto/Zamfara Customs Area Controller Kamal Muhammed has declared the reopening of the Illela border with Niger Republic to allow for free flow of people and commerce.
This is in accordance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s direction to reopen land and air borders with Niger Republic and to lift additional restrictions on the country with immediate effect, following the relaxation of sanctions on Niger Republic by ECOWAS.
The reopening of the border was announced in a statement made by SP Abdullahi Tsafe Abubakar, Sokoto/Zamfara command, on behalf of the customs area controller.
The comptroller instructed public organizations and security agencies at the border station to work together as much as possible on trade facilitation, information sharing, and intelligence sharing in order to provide secure, efficient, and effective border services.
He added that the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, praised the Customs license agents and the Illela community for their tolerance and cooperation throughout the seven-month border shutdown.
The CGC assured the public of renewed and improved service delivery, while also urging them to follow existing import and export laws.
