Court orders immediate release of embattled ex CBN Governor, Emefiele
Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has been ordered to be released unconditionally and immediately by the Federal Capital Territory High Court.
Ex parte motion filed by Emefiele, the order was made by Justice O.A. Adeniyi.
In the move, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) requested his release from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) until the original motion was heard and decided.
The motion was heard by the judge, who then granted Emefiele’s release.
Emefiele listed the following as responders: the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the EFCC itself.
The Executive Chairman and the EFCC, the third and fourth respondents, were directed by the court to immediately release Emefiele from jail without any conditions. Alternatively, they are ordered to appear him in court on the scheduled day for the substantive motion hearing on notice, with the potential for the court to grant him bail.
The substantive motion was placed for notice, and the court scheduled the hearing for Monday, November 6, 2023.
