Cross River govt, Police pledges war against insecurity

On how to improve security in the state, the Cross River State government and Nigeria Police Force Zone 6 have conferred.

This was confirmed by Jonathan Towuru, the zone’s assistant inspector general of police, when he saw Prof Anthony Owan-Eno, the secretary to the state government, in his office in Calabar.

The AIG claimed they had thought carefully about how to enhance state security in a statement signed by the zonal PRO, Nelson Okpabi.

Towuru took advantage of the visit to order the two police commissioners in Zone 6 to increase security in their states.

He also gave the states assurances about his determination to maintain adequate protection for people and property throughout the entire zone.

He claimed that the arraignment of the main suspects in the kidnapping of Professor Ephraim Ekanem of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital by the Cross River State Police Command is proof of the cooperation between his zone and the state.

Then, AIG Towuruu urged everyone to practice security awareness, work with the police, and report instances as soon as possible in order to improve the delivery of security services to all.

He issued a warning to the criminal elements, telling them to leave the area or face consequences.

Speaking earlier, Prof Owan-Eno said:

“As a government, we wish to inform you about our readiness to partner with your zone and indeed the security agencies so as to ensure the security and welfare of the citizens, which is the primary responsibility of government.

He commended Towuruu for the improvement in efforts to contain security challenges in the state.

The SSG was accompanied on the visit by the Director General of Hydrocarbons and Solid Minerals, Prince Ntui Ogar.
