Decomposing body of Journalist found in soak-away days after missing in Zamfara

The body of Hamisu Danjibga, a Zamfara-based journalist reporting for Voice of Nigeria (VON), was discovered in a soak away pit behind his house three days after he was declared missing, according to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zamfara State Council.

In a statement issued on Wednesday night, September 20, 2023, the union urged security services to fully investigate the brutal murder of the journalist and bring the murderers to justice.

According to a statement issued by State Council Secretary Ibrahim G. Ahmad:

“The discovery of his corpse was as a result of unpleasant odor observed by Islamiya Children in the evening of Wednesday 20th September, 2023 who drew the attention of their teachers.

“After breaking the soak away the dead body was confirmed to be that of Danjibga by his family and some neighbors. His funeral rites have since been observed according to Islamic injunctions.”

“While expressing deep concern over the nature of Danjibga’s demise, we appeal to security agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to justice”, the statement added.

The union expressed its deepest condolences to the family, the Voice of Nigeria, and the whole state.

Platinum Times gathered that two individuals have been apprehended in connection with the murder.
