Edo govt hits back at FG, says: ‘You can’t stop Obaseki from speaking truth to power’

The Edo State Government has voiced its concern with the Federal Government’s response to Governor Godwin Obaseki’s comment regarding President Bola Tinubu eclonomic strategy.
According to Platinum Times, Obaseki claimed that greater hardship for Nigerians was a result of Tinubu’s administration’s elimination of gasoline subsidies and foreign exchange reforms on Thursday when speaking to journalists in Benin.
Through the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the FG responded to Obaseki’s statement, claiming that the governor was attempting to divert attention away from his “poor performance” at the state level. The FG noted that the governor had skipped meetings of the National Economic Council, or NEC, under Tinubu’s administration.
Chris Nehikhare, the Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, responded to the FG in a statement on Sunday.
“It is unfortunate and sad that the Federal Government now wants to gag citizens, and even a popularly elected governor from speaking truth to power, expressing himself in the light of the perilous times we have fallen into.”
“The claim that the governor failed to attend NEC meetings is blatantly false. The records are there to prove this fact.”
