ESN/IPOB fighters neutralized by troops in Delta

Two IPOB/ESN combatants have been neutralized and five others have been taken into custody by a coalition of the 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police, and DSS agents.

Following a tough battle yesterday, July 17, 2023, near Fuji Junction general area in Asaba, Delta State, the fighters were slain by the joint security force.

The united forces moved into action in response to distress calls claiming that terrorists were attacking the neighborhood.

According to a statement by Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, the terrorists were defeated by the army’ superior firepower after two of their comrades were killed in the ensuing combat, and the remainder retreated to their hiding place near the Okpanam River.

The statement further stated that the forces had tracked the evading criminal elements to their hiding place in a home near the Okpanam River, where they had been apprehended.

One AK-47 rifle, one pump-action semi-automatic rifle, 15 live rounds, one AK-47 magazine, and a Baofeng radio receiver were found by the soldiers.

People were urged in the statement to “continue to cooperate with the security agencies by providing actionable information to support their operations to tackle security challenges.”

Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, has since praised the combined forces for their efforts and urged them to maintain their cooperation as they work to restore peace in the area.
