Ex NBA President Olumide Akpata joins Labour Party

Former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President Olumide Akpata has hinted at his upcoming political activities in his native state of Edo.

Olumide Akpata joined the Labour Party (LP) at the party’s secretariat in Oredo Ward 6.

This marks his entry into mainstream politics.

In a picture that went viral on the internet on Monday, Akpata was seen proudly waving his membership card in front of the Labour Party secretariat, a development that prompted comments from a number of different corners.

According to Platinum Times Nigeria, there has been a dramatic change in the political environment as the Edo 2024 Governorship Election approaches, with some powerful figures in the state joining the Labour Party.

One of them is Barr. Azemhe Azena, Ken Imasuagbon, and Kenneth Asekhome have all joined the Labor Party and declared an interest in running for governor the following year.

Given his influence and exceptional achievements as the former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, there are rumors that Olumi Akpata may choose the governorship ticket. This would definitely increase the environment and make it more competitive.

Akpata stated in a social media post earlier today:

“Quite a number of people have called/messaged me to confirm the news, currently making the rounds, that I have joined a political party.

Yes…I joined the @labourparty_ng in March this year and on Sunday I attended my first Ward Meeting at Oredo Ward 6, in Benin City, where I was formally introduced to members of the Ward and presented with my Party membership card.

This was a major step for me and not one that I took lightly…but I simply got tired of complaining about Nigeria every day and bemoaning her fate and I decided to take the plunge and to try to be part of the solution rather than agonizing continually over the problem.

This, for me, is the start of a very important journey and it is my prayer that I arrive safely at my destination.”
