Ex Reps Speaker, Na’Abba, laid to rest in Kano (photos)

Vice President Kashim Shettima, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, and Senate Deputy President Barau Jibrin were among dignitaries who attended the funeral prayer and burial of former House of Representatives Speaker Ghali Umar Na’abba in Kano on Wednesday evening.

According to Platinum Times, the deceased died about 3 a.m. on Wednesday morning at a hospital in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Abuja.

His body was flown back to Kano for burial at 2 p.m. and was escorted to his residence for prayers before being transported to the palace of Kano’s Emir.

The Chief Imam of Kano, Prof Sani Zahraddeen, led the burial prayer at the palace at 5:38 p.m.

The late Na’Abba was buried at the Dandolo cemetery in Goron Dutse, leaving behind one wife and ten children.

Among the thousands that attended the funeral prayer were important figures such as Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, Senator Kawu Sumaila, and many others.

In 1999, late Ghali Umar Na’abba was elected to the House of Representatives to represent Kano Municipal Federal Constituency in Kano State.

With his success and the backing of other House members-elect from Kano and the North West geopolitical zone, he ran for Speaker of the House.

On September 27, 1958, Na’Abba was born into the household of Alhaji Umar Na’Abba, a trader in Tudun Wada, Kano Municipal Local Government.

His father was a strict disciplinarian as well as an Islamic scholar.
