FACT CHECK: Is Betta Edu returning as Minister?
According to reports, Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly cleared the suspended minister of Humanitarian affairs, Betta Edu of all corrupt charges.
Although no official statement regarding her being cleared of all charges but sources within the presidential villa told TheDiscoverer.ng on Friday that the president is considering reinstating her as Minister of Humanitarian affairs.
Another source revealed that she is likely to be redeployed to Ministry of Special Duties, however, it is unclear what the decision of president Bola Tinubu will be in the coming days.
Mr Tinubu suspended Edu in January after ordering the transfer of N585.2 million into the private bank account of a civil servant, who is the accountant in charge of grants for vulnerable Nigerians.
The president also asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to carry out a “thorough investigation” of all the ministry’s financial transactions.”
The investigation extended to the entire framework of Nigeria’s social investment programmes.
