Platinum Times Nigeria can confirm that Former Head of States Gen. Yakubu Gowon is alive, healthy and strong.
The news circulating across media outlets is not true.
According to Platinum Times findings, a report on Tribune Online stated that the immediate past Chairman of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNUs) and former Vice-Chancellor of Niger Delta University, Emeritus Prof. Samuel Gowon Edoumiekumor, passed away, not General Gowon.
He died in Lagos early on Saturday, October 7, at the age of 53.
Edoumiekumor, a professor of economics and social sciencist, passed away from complications related to lung cancer.
Genera Gowon is a retired Nigerian army general and also retired Military Head of State.
As head of state of Nigeria, Gowon presided over a controversial Nigerian Civil War and delivered the famous “no victor, no vanquished” speech at the war’s end to promote healing and reconciliation.

over the phone that he is still alive and asked where the rumors came from.
A part of social media speculated that the General died at the age of 89.
When approached by a News Editor over the phone, the General denied the reports, insisting that he is alive and well.
