Family in tears as Jos PDP chairman remains in captivity 40 days after kidnap

Following a party meeting on September 23, 2023, Dung Tari, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, was kidnapped.
He has been held captive for 40 days.
Around 1:00 pm, Tari was in his car in Jos, taking a phone call on the Bukuru road when he was stopped by two Toyota Hilux cars driven by two anonymous males, who forcibly transported him to an undisclosed location.
At a news conference, the party’s state chairman, Chris Hassan, voiced his concerns about the development and charged the military with being behind the kidnapping.
Concerns were also raised by Tari’s relatives regarding the whereabouts of the kidnapped PDP leader.
Ezekiel Nyaku, the head of the Berom Educational and Cultural Organization in the Kuru District of the Jos South Local Government Area, denounced the PDP chairman’s detention.
He lamented,
“It is now more than one month and nobody knows his whereabouts. We don’t know whether his abduction was politically motivated or not considering that he was abducted shortly after a party meeting.”
The National President of the Berom Youth Moulders, Solomon Mwantiri, stated that the association was making efforts to locate the abducted party chieftain.
He also called for Tari’s release without further delay.
