FCT is not distinctive, 25% is unimportant – Supreme Court

The applications of Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) to overturn President Bola Tinubu’s election on the grounds that he did not receive the required 25% of the vote in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Abuja have been dismissed by the Supreme Court.

The FCT has no unique status, according to the Supreme Court, which is why it agreed with the Appeal Court’s ruling that the 25% is irrelevant and insisted the tribunal’s finding was correct.

According to Platinum Times, the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal ruled that the Federal Capital Territory does not have a superior standing compared to other states within the nation.

The ruling was made in response to petitions filed by Atiku and Obi, who said that Tinubu was not the winner of the majority of votes in the presidential election on February 25.

The judgment was pending at the time this report was submitted.
