FCTA break silence on demolition of Lobito Plaza
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has dismissed a recent TikTok social media video purporting to depict the demolition of a plaza on Lobito Crescent, Wuse II, in Abuja.
The video in question, according to FCTA, is an intentional attempt to spread misinformation and cause unwarranted concern among people, despite the fact that it was shot two years ago, in 2021, and the building portrayed was not demolished.
The Department of Development Control found a violation linked to the building’s use, according to a statement issued by Anthony Ogunleye, Director of Press, Office of the FCT Minister.
According to the statement:
“Subsequently, appropriate measures were taken to address the issue responsibly. Contrary to the claims made in the video, the building was not brought down. Rather, the contravening portion was removed to ensure compliance with regulations.
“To provide further clarity, we have attached a current photo of the building taken today, clearly demonstrating that it remains standing. The FCTA takes great care in enforcing regulations while ensuring the well-being and safety of our residents.”
FCTA strongly condemned the deliberate spread of false information, stressing that it undermines trust and security in our communities.
The statement added:
“Even more distressing is the ethnic colouration attached to the offending videos. A mischief of this nature is counterproductive and only creates unnecessary fear and disaffection.
“FCTA urges the promoters of such misinformation to desist from these actions, as they contribute nothing positive to society.
“We assure residents that FCTA remains committed to transparent communication and responsible governance. We encourage the public to verify information from reliable sources before spreading it further.”
