Fed Govt to turn NYSC into revenue-generating agency – Minister
The federal government has revealed intentions to transform the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) into a revenue-generating entity.
The Minister of Youth Development, Jamila Bio-Ibrahim, made the announcement while appearing on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics broadcast.
The minister also stated that the Federal Government was working to revamp the NYSC plan to reflect the current circumstances of the country.
She went on to say that they were all aware that resources were running out, and that they would come up with new ways to ensure that corps members’ well-being was prioritized.
According to her,
“The reforms will transform the NYSC into a revenue-generating agency and prepare the corps members for the job market and to be decently and gainfully employed or to be employers of labour through entrepreneurship all the support they need in that career path.”
She also disclosed that corps members were no longer posted to states deemed unsafe in the wake of worsening insecurity in the country.
The minister explained that the security of corps members required collaboration with other agencies of government.
