Platinum Times had earlier reported that the Kano State Fire Service confirmed the death of one person and a burnt truck following a fire incident at an illegal refinery and engine oil depot at the Katanga area of Wailari, located along Ring Road Bypass, opposite Maryam Shekarau Estate in Gezawa LGAof Kano State.
The Public Relations Officer of the state Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, who confirmed the incident, said the fire, which started around 9.50am on Monday, also destroyed four residential houses in the area.
It took personnel of the Kano State Fire Service, National Emergency Management Agency, and fire workers from Salbas Petrol Station more than three hours before they could bring the fire under control.
It was gathered that the place, which is located amid residential houses, is used to keep scraps of trucks and trailers in addition to storing fuel and refining used engine oil for other purposes.
