Fire engulfs property in Kwara, destroys N23.8m worth of goods
A fire broke out on Saturday in the Alfa Yahaya neighborhood of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, destroying property worth N23.8 million, including pharmaceuticals, furniture, and other drinks.
The fire destroyed seven flats and two shops at Ado complex number five.
It completely wrecked two of the seven flats and three of the seven flats.
Hassan Adekunle, Head of Media and Publicity, Kwara State Fire Service, confirmed the occurrence, adding that the firemen worked tirelessly to limit the damage caused by the fire.
“However, the firemen were able to perform excellently well to minimise the damage, therefore other rooms in the building including many tangible properties were saved from the scathed fire.
He said that the cause of the fire was traced to the power surge in the area.
“Total estimated property saved is N47.4 million and total estimated property lost is N23.8 million,” Adekunle said.
“The Director of Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa urged the citizens to always cultivate the habit of switching off their electrical appliances even before the bedtime, as this would help them to prevent the chances of fire outbreaks in their various homes, Offices and also help them to drastically reduce it,” he added
