Fire razes academic complex at COE Akparabong

A fire has completely destroyed the academic building of SteadyFlow College of Education Akparabong Community in the Cross River State local government area of Ikom.

Millions of naira worth of academic facilities were damaged in yesterday’s tragic incident, however no lives were lost.

It was discovered that a bystander unintentionally left a cigarette filter next to a bush near the perimeter fence, which allowed the fire to spread on the school’s grounds.

Ada Agbor, an eyewitness, claimed that a bush fire had entered the school and destroyed the buildings.

Hon. Jones Tangban, the founder of SteadyFlow College of Education and a former member of the National Assembly for the Boki/Ikom federal seat, ascribed the fire incidence to careless bush burning.

He urged the Cross River State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to assist the organization.

He appealed,

“We just thank God that no life was lost. We need state and federal government agencies (NEMA) to come to our aid because resumption is affected by the destruction of facilities at the college.

“Steady flow College of Education Academic complex had been engulfed by wild fire today so much had been destroyed. (The Guardian)
