Fresh communal clash claim two lives, houses burnt in Benue

Two persons have reportedly been killed while two others were shot during a communal dispute in the Ajetachi village in the North Bank region, a community of Makurdi, Benue State’s capital.

Several houses were reportedly burnt down during the incident, which according to eyewitnesses, started late hours of Sunday till Easter Monday.

An eyewitness, Nura Umah, told journalists that the crisis was between Jukun and Tiv youths.

“The crisis started late hours of Sunday between Jukun and Tiv youths, several houses were burnt at Ajetachi, near the old bridge at North Bank.

“Two people were killed during the crisis, one of them (deceased ) was an okada rider, and another man who was hawking leather.

“They have buried the two people today (Monday), yesterday when the Jukuns were in the church, the Tiv people attacked them in the church and shot two people who are presently receiving treatment in the hospital,” Umar said.

Efforts to get the response of the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, were not successful as his phone rang out.
