FUTA students stage protest over tuition fee hike

The students of Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) have shut the school in protest of the administration’s 100% tuition increase.
Last Monday, the school administration unveiled a revised pricing plan for the 2023–2024 academic year.
Prior to the start of classes again, the administration released a statement stating that the tuition costs for new students would increase from N108,000 to N240,000 and for returning students from N29,000 to N131,000.
In a nonviolent protest, the students on Monday closed the university in response to the raises.
On the Akure-Ilesha road, the demonstration also resulted in traffic congestion, forcing some drivers to do a U-turn.
Adegbenro Adebanjo, the spokesperson for FUTA, was unavailable when this story was filed.
