Gov. Adeleke appoints Prince Makinde as new Owa of Igbajo
The Osun State Government has approved Dr. Ademola Makinde’s appointment as the next Owa of Igbajo.
The appointment was announced in a statement by Kolapo Alimi, Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment.
According to the announcement, Dr. Makinde’s nomination was approved by Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, after proper process.
Dr. Makinde’s name was transmitted to the state via Boluwaduro Local Government and passed through due process in strict accordance with chieftaincy rules and tradition, following his prior endorsement by the Igbajo kingmakers.
Governor Adeleke has congratulated the new Owa of Igbajo, asking him to prioritize inclusive traditional governance and reconcile any divisions resulting from the selection process.
The Governor stressed the significance of restoring dignity and integrity to the ancient institution.
This appointment follows a January recommendation, prompted by a White Paper, to initiate a new selection process.
Previously, in November 2022, the Adegboyega Oyetola administration appointed Adegboyega Famodun, the former All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman in Osun.
However, upon taking office, Governor Adeleke paused the procedure via Executive Order and mandated the start of a fresh one.
Dr. Makinde’s appointment is a key milestone in Igbajo’s traditional leadership, with high expectations for his term to restore community unity and progress.
