Gov Fubara reads riot act to monarch involved in killings in Rivers

Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, has warned local traditional leaders against participating in cult activities on Monday and vowed to “come after” anyone seen doing so.

This follows the state-wide cult’s recent murder of Divisional Police Officer Bako Amgbashim.

Amgbashim, a Superintendent of Police assigned to the Rivers police command, was brutally murdered on Friday night while in charge of a security squad operating in the Ahoada East Local Government’s Odiemudie community.

Less than 48 hours after ordering the permanent suspension of a monarch over the DPO’s death, Fubara issued a warning to traditional rulers while speaking at the opening of the Mgbuodohia internal roads in Obio-Akpor, Rivers State.

“Any traditional ruler, be it from his place, who is supporting cultism and is starting to be a problem in the state, I assure you, as I’ve started with the order, I will come after you,” he said.

Earlier, the governor called for a moment of silence in honour of the slain officer.

“I know we are in a very sad state in this city, and more especially in our state, Rivers State, because of the incident that took place some days back. I would wish everyone to stand up and we observe a minute silence,” the governor said.

After the brief tribute, Fubara prayed that the soul of “this gallant officer” rest in peace.

On Sunday, Fubara swore that the suspects in the horrifying murder of Amgbashim will be apprehended, dead or alive.

The governor declared his administration would not want Rivers State to turn into a refuge for criminals just moments after hosting an urgent State Security Council meeting at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

However, he voiced confidence in the state’s security forces’ capacity to identify the crime’s origin and apprehend all of its offenders.
