Gov Makinde signs into law Oyo Electricity Bill

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State signed the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission Bill 2024 into law.

Platinum Times reports that Makinde signed the bill into law on Friday in Ibadan, the state capital.

While speaking, the governor stated that the signing will allow the state to build a road plan for sustainable electricity.

He went on to say that if federalism is practiced properly, Nigerians will undoubtedly benefit from the rewards of democracy.

Makinde said:

“As promised earlier in the week, we are signing the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission Bill 2024 into law today. This law will enable Oyo State to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity within the state.

“Amendments of the constitution like this are what we mean when we advocate for fiscal federalism. In years to come, as we work towards energy sufficiency, our people can hold state governments accountable on the issue of electricity supply.”

The Deputy Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Mohammed Abiodun Fadeyi, said this is the first time that the state would come up with an independent electricity project.
