Gov. Otu Bassey reinstates NYSC state allowance for Corp members

Cross River State Government has disclosed that it will restore the payment of NYSC allowances to core members serving in the state.

This was made known On Tuesday, June 27, where Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, Deputy Governor of Cross River State played host to Mr Zeboh Andrew Jebo, State Coordinator of NYSC in his office.

During the visitation, Odey expressed his love for the NYSC programme and relived his days as CLO when he served at Nguru, Yobe State in the year 2000. He assured the State Coordinator that the new administration in Cross River State will respond to the many needs confronting the scheme in the state, particularly the issues of allowances for Corp members and living conditions at the NYSC camp.

He said the old narrative in which corp members sought redeployment to other states where they had better options had come to an end as the State would do everything within its power to make corp members comfortable in the state.

Speaking earlier, the State Coordinator who was accompanied by key directors and some corp members, expressed gratitude to the state government for the provision of various incentives and a borehole at the NYSC camp.

Highlights of the visit which had the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Anthony Owan Enoh, included the presentation of handmade gift items including artworks and shoes to the Governor and Deputy Governor.

According to reports, the last time NYSC members tasted allowance from the Government of Cross River State was during the tenure of former Governor Donald Duke and Liyel Imoke, a situation which is about to change under Governor Bassey Otu.
