Gov Sheriff approves 25% reduction in acceptance fee payment in Delta tertiary institutions

As part of palliatives for students, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has approved a 25% reduction in acceptance fees payable at the four state-owned tertiary institutions.

The Governor’s approval was contained in a statement published on Wednesday in Asaba by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon.

According to the statement, the reduction in the acceptance fee was in accordance with Delta State Government attempts to mitigate the impact of the loss of fuel subsidies on citizens.

Ahon further stated that the 25% decrease in acceptance fee is applicable to new students at Delta State University, Abraka; Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro; University of Delta, Agbor; and Dennis Osadebay University, Anwai-Asaba.

The governor had previously approved the payment of N10,000 to workers for three months and N5.522 billion to 50,196 personnel as promotion arrears as palliatives to civil servants throughout the state.

In addition, the governor has approved a three-day rotational schedule for government officials on Salary Grade Level 1-14, while staff on Salary Grade Level 15 and above are to work out what is convenient for them in their respective MDAs, ensuring that critical services continue uninterrupted. In addition, 2,000 primary school teaching and non-teaching employees are being recruited in 22 of the State’s 25 Local Government Areas.

The governor’s spokesman further stated that the state government has set aside N10 billion in addition to over 17,000 bags of rice and 64,000 bags of corn, all in 50kgs, as palliatives for the society’s less privileged, destitute, those with disabilities, and the elderly.

He stated that all of these measures were aimed at mitigating the impact of the state’s removal of fuel subsidies on its inhabitants.
