Gunmen abduct 10 in Abuja community

On Sunday, January 7, gunmen raided Sagwari Estate in the Dutse axis of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja and kidnapped ten people, causing uncertainty among residents.

According to eyewitnesses, the kidnappers, dressed as herders, invaded the estate at around 7:30 p.m.

The investigation indicated that eight persons were taken from the estate, while two employees were seized from a neighboring hotel (name withheld).

One of the victims who posted a distress message to the estate’s WhatsApp group stated that his family was in danger before stopping replying to messages a few minutes later.

According to another homeowner, security operatives have already been mobilised and are assisting estate security officers in searching the hills behind the estate.

A security officer who had been battered and chained by the kidnappers has also been rescued.

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, could not be reached for comment.

Repeated calls to her phone did not go through, and she did not respond to texts sent to it.

However, a call to the Police emergency contact center indicated that the command was aware of the event and had notified the nearest DPO to mobilise men to the scene.

Residents of the neighborhood uphill are still shocked by the occurrence and plead for safety.
