Gunmen strike again in Ogun, kill 1 poly student, shoot 9

Only four days after the Ogun State Police Command claimed to have captured three armed robbers involved in the robbery and rape of Gateway Polytechnic, Sapaade students, the students were attacked again, with one suffering the ultimate price.
Nine additional kids were injured by gunshots during the crime.
The latest crime comes barely a week after students and indigenous peoples protested the robbery and rape of female polytechnic students by hoodlums.
Students staying at off-campus motels in Ode, Ipara, and Isara, all of which are adjacent areas to Sapaade, were mostly targeted by the bandits.
Following the students’ protest last Tuesday, the administration closed the school for three days in order to restore normalcy.
Abiodun Alamutu, the Commissioner of Police, also met with student leaders to discuss the escalating tensions in the student communities.
Days later, the police announced the arrest of three of the armed gangs.
However, in the early hours of Saturday, the suspected robbers returned to the volatile villages and attacked students.
The attack occurred in Ode’s Larufi neighborhood.
Our correspondent saw destroyed doors, broken windows, and bullet-ridden walls in some of the viral footage of the incident on Instagram.
The attack was confirmed by two academics.
One of the lecturers, who did not want their names in print over the terrifying nature of the incident, described the incident “as a calculated operation.”
Police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, did not respond to calls and messages from our correspondent as at press time.
The institution’s Head of Public Relations, Adedayo Folorunsho, declined comment on the attack.
She, however, said “the security agencies should be allowed to do their job.”
