Heavy DSS presence in court as Kanu’s trial resumes

The Department of State Services has increased security both inside and outside the Federal High Court in Abuja, where the trial of the Indigenous People of Biafra leader, Nnamdi Kanu, is due to begin today.

Kanu’s case was halted when the Court of Appeal released and exonerated him in October 2022.

The appellate court also ruled that Kanu’s abduction from Kenya to Nigeria was illegal and invalidated the Federal Government’s terrorist accusations against him.

However, the FG filed an appeal against the decision before the Supreme Court.

On December 15, 2023, the Supreme Court ordered that Kanu’s trial on terrorist accusations be continued.

Kanu has been in DSS custody since June 2021, when he was repatriated from Kenya to Nigeria.

Before entering the courthouse, journalists, litigants, and court personnel were inspected at at least four checkpoints, beginning with the road to the Ministry of Justice.

Details later.
