Five alleged rapists have been detained by the Jigawa State Police Command, including an HIV sufferer who is accused of raping a 14-year-old girl in Jigawa State.
The arrest was verified by the police in a statement provided to Platinum Times Nigeria by police spokesman DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam.
He claimed that after the victim’s father informed the police that his 14-year-old daughter had been raped while selling awara, the culprits were apprehended on Friday in Yola Quarters in the Jahun Local Government Area.
Shiisu claimed that according to the inquiry, one of the suspects, Aliyu Sani, had carnal knowledge of the victim when he enticed her into Rabiu Ibrahim’s room.
Idris Haruna, Rabiu Inuwa, and Hussaini Mato, three further suspects from the Jahun town, were also involved in many sexual encounters with the victim on various days and at various times, he continued.
According to the police spokesman, the victim and the suspects were transferred to the Sexual Assault Referral Centre Dutse (SARC Dutse) for a medical evaluation, where one suspect had HIV testing results verified and another had hepatitis C testing results.
He claimed that although the victim had tested negative thus far, she will undergo another test three months from now, during the disease’s incubation period, to determine her health.
He announced that the suspects would be presented in court for possible prosecution.
