Hospitalized NLC President Ajaero to undergo brain scan, other significant tests
Among other studies, a brain scan, a full body scan, cervical spine therapy, and an ophthalmic study have been recommended for Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress.
This is what newsmen in Owerri received in a message from Comrade Benson Upah, the NLC’s Head of Information.
According to Comrade Upah, Joe Ajaero, the President of the NLC, was currently wearing a neck collar and had weal all over his body.
He said that after being brought to the Owerri Police Hospital, Comrade Joe Ajaero was subsequently referred to the Federal Medical Center in Owerri, where he is currently receiving care.
According to the NLC, Ajaero was severely beaten, had his phones, cash, and other personal belongings seized from him, and had his right eye closed at the time of impact.
In a previous warning to employees, Organised Labour hinted at possible statewide action should the arrested President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) not be released by Wednesday at the latest.
Earlier, during a worker-led demonstration against the state government’s alleged ongoing violations of their rights, Comrade Ajaero was arrested in Owerri, Imo State.
NLC Issued a National Strike Threat
Earlier, the Organised Labour had warned employees to brace themselves for imminent action, claiming that work cannot continue while the NLC President is in custody.
Additionally, the Organized Labour demanded that President Bola Tinubu step in to stop Uzodimma from running amok and keep the state from turning into what they refer to as “a den of thugs and bloodsuckers.”
The NLC President, according to the Imo State Police Command, is being held in protective custody to ensure his safety.
Additionally, the Imo State government has denied any role in Comrade Joe Ajaero’s detention, the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress.
In a statement, Chief Declan Emelumba, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, characterized as mischievous the claims made by certain individuals that the government was responsible for the labor leader’s detention.
He pointed out that the National Industrial Court in Owerri had put an end to the alleged strike in the State, making the planned action unlawful.
Chief Emelumba clarified that the NLC chapter in Imo State’s announcement to end the strike was done so in accordance with the court’s decision.
The statement questioned Comrade Ajaero’s actions in Owerri in disregard of the court’s injunction, which threatened dire penalties for disobedience.
According to Chief Emelumba, the government’s evidence suggested that there may have been a fight between Imo State laborers and Abuja invaders, necessitating police intervention to keep the peace.
He continued by saying that because the government upheld the rule of law, it would not consider detaining the NLC President.
