How Police recovered 42 looted vehicles from Matawalle – Zamfara govt reveals

The operation of the Nigerian Police Force, which resulted in the recovery of vehicles looted by the former State Governor, Bello Mohammaed Matawalle, has been clarified by the Zamfara State Government.

In the early hours of Friday, the Nigerian Police Force raided the former governor’s home, seizing more than 40 vehicles.

Suleiman Bala Idris, the Zamfara Governor’s spokesperson, confirmed in a statement released today in Gusau that the Police had carried out the operation in accordance with a court order, and a search warrant had been secured for it.

“Recall that the Zamfara State Government has officially communicated to former Governor Bello Matawalle and his Deputy to return all the missing vehicles within five (5) working days,” the statement said in part.

We also made a formal complaint to the police about the wasteful theft of items, including government cars, which outweighed the public’s interest.

“As a result, the Police requested a search warrant, which the court promptly approved, and raided Matawalle’s home in Gusau, Maradun Local Government, as well as another undisclosed hiding place.

“More than 40 cars, including three armored and eight SUVs, were found.

“We want to reaffirm that we will do all in our power to get back what is rightfully ours. We are all committed to saving and rebuilding Zamfara. A crucial component of our rescue effort is getting back stolen money and other public property.

“While we continue to record massive improvements in the areas of security and the state’s lingering water shortage, we want to call on the people of Zamfara to maintain calm.”
