How we saved N500m through workers verification – Governor Mutfwang reveals

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State stated on Friday that the State has saved around N500 million as a result of the recent employees’ verification initiative his administration undertook.

This was said by Mutfwang during his speech at the swearing-in of 19 commissioners who had just been selected by a Special Adviser and the State House of Assembly.

According to him, state employees were on strike when we arrived because they were due pay from February to May 2023.

“We established a committee to examine the state’s labor force.

“The procedure managed to save the state almost N500 million.

The governor assured that salaries for April and May will be paid soon by stating that the employees had already received their February and March salaries.

“This appointment is not an opportunity for you to pursue your own selfish desire, but to serve the state,” the governor said in reference to the appointees.

You have obligations to the state as a whole in addition to your local government.

He insisted,

“We will hold you accountable based on your performance, in your many areas of responsibility.

He promised that palliatives will soon be made accessible for the public’s current economic distress and asked people not to engage in immoral behavior since fairness would be scrupulously upheld during the distribution process.

In the interim, the governor has urged religious figures to teach peaceful coexistence to their followers.

He said,

“When we came in, workers in the state were on strike, because they were been owed salaries from February to May 2023.

“We set up a committee to verify the workforce in the state.

“The process was able to save the state the sum of about N500 million.

The Governor said the workers have received salaries for February and March, assuring that salaries for April and May would soon be paid.

On the appointees, the Governor warned that “This appointment is not an opportunity to pursue your own selfish desire, but to serve the state.

“You are not responsible to only your Local Government but to the entire state.

“We will be holding you responsible based on your performance, in your various areas of responsibility”, he maintained.

On the current economic hardship being experienced by the citizenry, he assured that palliatives would soon be made available and urged citizens not to engage in unholy activities, as fairness would be strictly adhered to in the distribution exercise.

Meantime, the Governor has appealed to religious leaders to speak to their adherents, urging them to preach harmonious relationships.

“It is not time to continue to fan the embers of hatred”, he admonished.

Responding on behalf of the appointees, Commissioner for Higher Education, Mrs Kachollom Gang, thanked the Governor for appointing them.

She also assured that they will put in their best to deliver on their mandate.
