Mary Nkeki, one of the Chibok schoolgirls abducted, has sought to be reunited with her husband Mallam Adamu, a repentant Boko Haram member, after she was recently freed by Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) troops in the Northeast.
Our correspondent discovered that the girl who was saved was one of the 276 schoolgirls who were kidnapped by Boko Haram on April 14, 2014, in the Chibok Community.
Speaking to reporters while presenting Mary Nkeki to Zuwaira Gambo, the Borno State Commissioner for Women Affairs, at the Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri yesterday (Monday), Theatre Commander OPHK Maj-Gen. Gold Chibuisi assured that more of these success stories are being carried out by the special grace of God.
He claims that on August 14, 2023, soldiers from the 81st Nigerian Army Battalion, stationed in the border town of Dikwa, Cameroon, saved Mary, age 27.
In April 2014, Chubuisi further revealed that Mary’s name appeared on list 55 of the missing Chibok schoolgirls.
The Commander described how she was saved, saying:
“Mary was rescued by our troops, while one Adamu; her husband surrendered to Army last week in the border areas of Cameroon.”
According to Mary, she and her husband had two children, but they perished in the Gulumba Forest of the Bama local government due to severe acute malnutrition (SAM).
Despite being saved, she said she still wished to be with her husband, Adamu, who had already turned himself in last week in Dikwa.
