IGP appoints Olatunji Disu as new Rivers CP, others

Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector General of Police, has named Olatunji Disu as the new Commissioner of Police in Rivers State.
IGP Egbetokun has also chosen seven police officers to manage various commands as part of ongoing efforts to bolster security, combat violent crime, and improve the coordination of police operations across Nigeria.
The new appointments were contained in a signal that had already been sent and received by Platinum Times.
The redeployment of senior police personnel is effective immediately, according to the statement.
The police chief charged the new CPs in the signal to display professional competence in the new offices they were appointed to lead across the country.
Rivers State’s new CP will take over for CP Nwonyi Emeka, a week after Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara accused some police officers of attempting to kill him when he went to assess the extent of damage done to the State House of Assembly following an explosion that severely damaged the hallowed chambers.
The State House of Assembly also sought to impeach Governor Fubara, resulting in days of protests by state youths, the arrest of 150 teenagers, and the murder of a youth by a stray bullet from police.
Disu’s new position comes just seven months after he was promoted from deputy commissioner of police to commissioner of police, and was later appointed by the IGP as his principal staff, leading and coordinating the security team attached to the IGP’s office and others.
Disu previously served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja, and as the Deputy Head of the Rivers Command’s State Criminal Investigation Department.
