IGP orders deployment of 54 ACPs nationwide
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the deployment of Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to lead the Force’s Intelligence Department at the Zonal and State Command levels across the country.
According to the IGP, the initiative aims to strengthen the Police Force’s intelligence branch.
The position, according to the police, is based on the IGP’s desire to develop and enhance the efficacy of the Intelligence Department at all levels of the Force as a panacea for tackling the country’s crime rate, which is consistent with his vision statement.
On assumption of post, the IGP reactivated Presidential approval to upgrade the Force Intelligence Bureau to the rank of a Department, appointing DIG Habu Sanni as the DIG in charge of the new Department of Force Intelligence.
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, issued a statement on Tuesday that read:
“IGP has, however, tasked the newly appointed Senior Officers to deploy all intelligence-based assets in combating crimes and criminality in their respective areas of responsibility.
“He has further charged them to entrench professionalism and apply their wealth of experience in the course of discharging their duties towards strengthening the already existing intelligence architecture of the Force”.
The posting, Adejobi said, is with immediate effect.
