Imo: Appeal Court upholds Martins Chinedu election as Ahiazu Mbaise/Ezinihitte Rep member

The Imo State Election Petitions Appeal Court in Lagos, Nigeria has unanimously declared Hon. Emeka Martins Chinedu of the PDP to be the party’s official candidate and the resounding winner of the Ahiazu Mbaise/Ezinihitte Federal Constituency election of 2023.

In their decision, the Justices of the Appeal Court maintained the findings of the lower court. Once they determined that the appeal lacked validity, they also upheld the verdict. This implied that the hopes of Hon. Nnanna Igbokwe, a regular contender for the House of Representatives, and his associate, Labour Party candidate Darlington Amaechi, who intended to gain a seat in the House of Representatives by dishonesty, were dashed.

The latter had attempted to profit on Peter Obi’s widespread appeal, which at the time was heightened in the South East due to his fervor and acceptability. That endeavor, however, is declared void by this ruling.

Recall that on September 7, 2023, the panel headed by Akpovi unanimously proclaimed Hon. Emeka Chinedu as the legitimate victor of the election. The panel also found that other parties had no standing or jurisdiction to meddle in their rival party’s internal affairs.

The case had been heard by the High Court, Appeal Court, and Supreme Court, in that order. Hon. Emeka Chinedu had always been declared the winner and Igbokwe was regarded as an unwanted intruder who was trying to meddle in the PDP’s internal matters.

Remarkably, Hon. Nnanna Igbokwe is currently the unchallenged heavyweight petitioner who has successfully brought Hon. Emeka Chinedu before the court ten times in a row, but each time she was beaten. It appears that he is not ready to accept the election’s outcomes once more.
