Interior Ministry to launch automated passport application system today

The much-anticipated International Passport Automation system will be launched on Monday, January 8, by Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

The automated passport system is set to go operational on January 8, 2024, during an assessment of Nigeria Immigration Service facilities in Abuja, according to The Nation.

The program aims to provide applicants with a convenient and secure experience while also decreasing human interaction in the passport application process.

The minister emphasized the new system’s relevance in enhancing the country’s security architecture while also protecting the comfort and convenience of Nigerian inhabitants.

He stated that the Nigeria Immigration Service had deployed document verification personnel in all local government areas of the country to strengthen document verification.

Tunji-Ojo underscored the government’s commitment to preventing the use of false documents in passport applications.
