Jos farmers bags jail term for assault, attempted extortion

On Friday, an Area Court in Jos sentenced two farmers, Samaila Zanko, 24, and Umar Abubakar, 36, to three months in prison for assault and extortion.

Mr Shawomi Bokkos, the court, punished Zanko and Abubakar after they admitted to assault and attempted extortion.

Bokkos, on the other hand, granted each of them the option of paying a N10,000 fine.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Monday Dabit, told the court that the crime was reported to the Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Jos on September 11 by the complainant, Malam Saudi Abdullahi.

According to the prosecutor, the convicts beat up the plaintiff after invading his home.

According to him, the inmates also demanded N3 million from the complainant as a “settlement fee” and threatened to beat him up if he did not comply.

According to Dabit, the offense violated the provisions of the Plateau Penal Code. (NAN)
