Just In: DSS is plotting Emefiele’s re-arrest despite bail – Lawyers reveals

Godwin Emefiele’s attorneys have warned that the Department of State Service (DSS) is preparing to re-arrest their client despite the fact that a Federal High Court in Lagos had granted him bail.

Godwin Emefiele is the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Following the court’s decision on Tuesday, lead lawyer for the troubled and suspended CBN chief, Joseph Daudu, announced this.

Emefiele was granted bail earlier on Tuesday by Justice Nicholas Oweibo in the amount of N20 million, and the judge then ordered that he be held at the detention facility until the bail requirements were met.

Shortly after the decision, DSS agents placed their Hilux Pick Up van, which was used to transport Emefiele to court, in a way that suggested they intended to return him to their custody facility.

This led Emefiele’s attorneys, including Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Daudu and others, to issue a warning on their client’s impending second arrest by the secret police.

The CBN governor who has been placed on administrative leave is still confined to the courtroom with his attorneys as of the time this news was filed.

Outside of the court, a group of worried attorneys spoke with journalists about the situation and expressed their worries about the secret police’s strategy.
