Just In: Lagos Blue Rail Mass Transit resume operations for the first time since 1983

Years after it was first envisaged in 1983, the Lagos State Government has started the Blue Line Rail Mass Transit in commercial operation.
Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, is reportedly taking an inaugural ride from Marina to Mile-2, according to a live broadcast by Channels Television seen by DAILY POST on Monday.
Recall that the first phase of the Lagos train station was inaugurated by the late President Muhammadu Buhari in January.
The first part is 13 kilometers long and runs from Marina to Mile 2.
About 500,000 passengers per day will be transported along the 27 kilometre rail line.
Five stations make up the first phase: Marina, National Theatre, Iganmu, Alaba, and Orile.
The complete trip from Marina to Mile 2 will cost N750; customers who are not completing the full trip will pay zonal prices, which range between N400 and N500.
When Alhaji Lateef Jakande was the former governor of Lagos State, the Blue Line Rail Project was first proposed in 1983.
Twenty years later, in 2003, under Bola Tinubu’s administration, the train network was officially inaugurated.
