(Kaduna) NMA declares war against quack doctors

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Kaduna State chapter has pledged to remove dishonest and quack physicians from the State medical workforce.
During a press conference held on Monday at their secretariat to commemorate 2023’s “Physicians Week,” state NMA chairman Dr. Madaki David Sheyin warned that “the medical body will fight fake medical doctors and quacks to a standstill, warning them to stay off the profession.”
He urged on the government to address the health sector’s issues because NMA is also impacted by its subpar conditions and gave them the assurance that they would not be allowed to operate in peace or get away with it.
The topic for medical week is “Fighting Medical Quackery and Reinforcing Professional Standards” with the goal of “Elevating Health Care Excellence.”
In order to achieve this, he stated that the NMA has made the decision to collaborate with pertinent parties to make sure that quackery of all kinds is eradicated from the state. He further stated that the NMA would not think twice to reprimand its members and that they are constantly urged to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and to assist the association in getting rid of quackery of all kinds.
He said that a broad campaign of sensitization and awareness-raising against quacks’ practices and activities throughout the state has been launched.
He expressed disapproval towards the media trial of Nigerian doctors and asked that due process be followed by those who feel wronged in order to uphold the rule of law and fulfill their obligations.
Dr. Sheyin also discussed the role of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), emphasizing that as the organization legally tasked with this duty, any complaints against medical professionals operating in Nigeria should be directed to the MDCN’s Registrar for a suitable response.
